Taking off Payet and bringing on a 'defender' like Nordviedt only encourages a team to drop deeper and deeper.
Big Sam used to love that sort of thing.
Often think if you must take off a forward bring on a midfielder to give you more legs further up the pitch than put another body at the back and give up possession

We dropped too deep at the end - first half we totally subdued the yids by closing them down on the half way line

At the end we had 10 on the edge of our penalty box

Reflecting on yesterday, I think it was the team's and sb's inability to deal with attacks by rose down the right back channel that cost us. A better defensive option would have been to push., payet?, further forward to right wing and see if rose went forward. This would have left more gaps thru the middle, I guess..

The logic of subbing an attacking player for a defensive one is sound, but it does depend on the personnel for its success, and the logic of ever brining on the Viking is utterly flawed. He's bloody useless.

Let's be honest fellas we were lucky to be 2-1 up considering our inability to hold onto the ball and the amount of possession conceded. Tottenham were woeful for the most part and the score line whilst obviously pleasing was fortunate. It's been like that for a while where players with obvious talent are making silly decisions and giving the ball away. We are counter attacking well but have no real support for the striker so we just play hopeful balls into the channels which the striker can't get to. If Sakho can't get to them lord only knows how Carrol will cope!!

I understood the reasoning behind Slaven's subs it's just that they didn't come off because the players brought on are just not very good. If Payet had stayed on and we had lost because he got caught in possession then we would all have been shouting that Bilic should have brought on a defensive player to keep it at 2-1 so in some ways he can't win but at the same time it's someone's fault at the Club that those players that came on aren't good enough.

Bilic has been forced into a three at the back because we couldn't defend with four at the back but the problem is when playing with a three you need your full backs giving the width and getting high up the pitch and that didn't happen enough. When it did Payet and Cresswell were occupying the same space so when Cresswell had the chance to cross hardly anyone was in the area to aim at and because we were so deep Antonio wasn't getting back stick where he can do the damage. This in turn leaves the centre a bit lightweight and it seemed Obiang was there on his own too much.

Early last season Payet was drifting inside and linking up with Lanzini whilst Cresswell was playing like a left winger. This year Payet seems to be almost stuck out wide because he right now doesn't seem to have that burst of pace to get past people. He has great skill but he isn't quick so being stuck wide left he can't have an effect on the game especially now that Cresswell doesn't overlap as much.

Players need to be working in training on their weaknesses, Payet on speed, Lanzini on strength, Zaza on movement, Reid, Ogbonna and Collins on distribution etc however my biggest concern is how a Club who made some fantastic signings in the last two years have had one disaster of a transfer window last time out.

Subbing in a defensive player for an attacking one is very standard. You'll see some form of that substitution in the vast majority of games. I think there are better valid criticisms of Bilic than that.

The most worrying thing to me is that Bilic says the players need to get smart to hold on to a lead. If he can't see that the one who needs to get smart is himself, then we are in deep trouble.
How many times this season and last has he baffled us with his substitutions and and with team selections which have players out of position? He seems oblivious to the way some players actually perform on the pitch and just keeps bashing away with his favourites.
Yesterday's substitution of Nordveit for Payet with only 5 minutes to go was a classic example of not being smart.

gutted doesnt even begin to decsribe the way i feel.

Lets not overlook the fact we basically held and outfought one of the top sides in the prem- unbeaten ,etc etc. There are more positives than negatives on reflection

Still doesnt forgive or forget three fucking gifted goals for those cunts.

The brutal truth is we can beat the teams we should beat and we cant not lose to the better sides.

Something is missing and the answer isnt fucking andy carthorse getting fit again

Actually nicey i am saying even if it was in our favour i still dont think its enough to be a penalty, infact i would book the player for diving. Fucking hate this shit in our game. It should not matter if u go to ground or not, if the player is in control and looking to play the ball and gets taken out its a foul, dangling a foot behind hoping for contact and not being in control of the ball is not a penalty.
